Our Story
Four Centuries of Devon Hospitality
The Manor House began life in 1603 as the home of Thomas Trock, a Cullompton clothier whose trade helped build the town's fortune on Devon wool. His house, extended in 1718 and little altered since, remains one of Cullompton's finest buildings: a Grade II* listed testament to a town once among the wealthiest in the West Country.
Today the house continues in the spirit it began: a place to be received well. Oak panelling, wide staircases and tall sash windows sit alongside quiet, considered comforts, so guests might feel the weight of history without ever feeling it as a burden.

Behind the house, a walled garden shelters lawns, a productive kitchen garden and a stone terrace used for afternoon tea in finer weather. Beyond the wall, the Culm Valley opens onto the wider Devon countryside, a fitting setting for a slow walk before dinner.

Taste
Restaurant 1603
Restaurant 1603 takes its name from the year the house was built, and its ingredients from the fields around it. Menus change with the seasons and lean heavily on Devon: fish from the south coast, beef and lamb from the Culm Valley, and vegetables from our own kitchen garden where the season allows.
Afternoon tea is served daily in the Panelled Lounge, and private dining is available for parties of up to twenty four in the Oak Hall.

The Manor House is licensed for civil ceremonies and has, in one form or another, been marking occasions since 1603. Exchange vows in the walled garden, celebrate in the oak panelled hall, and let the rest of the house look after your guests.
